A Florida native, Dr. Shoemaker gained early admission to medical school and received combined B.S. and M.D. degrees from the University of Florida. Accepted without the usual requirement of an internship, he then completed a residency in Ophthalmology at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans. In 1983, Dr. Shoemaker founded Center For Sight, which is now acclaimed as one of the country’s finest eye care facilities

Dr. Shoemaker is a “super specialist,” a doctor who devotes his entire practice to one discipline, in this case, cataract and lens replacement surgery. Dr. Shoemaker is singularly focused on delivering unsurpassed results and consequent to that commitment, he has performed over 100,000 cataract procedures, resulting in Center For Sight being ranked #1 in the U.S. for advanced lens surgery.

Dr. Shoemaker is board-certified by both the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Eye Surgery and is consistently honored as one of America’s “Top Doctors” by Castle Connolly Medical. He has been named a “Top Doctor” by U.S. News and World Report and is included on the Premier Surgeon 300, a list of the most influential eye surgeons in the United States. He was recently honored with the “Compassionate Doctor Award” due to the patient reviews he received on Vitals.com. Locally, Dr. Shoemaker was voted “Best Ophthalmologist” and received the “Greater Good” Award for his leadership of Mission Cataract, Center For Sight’s annual charitable event. In 2012, Dr. Shoemaker established the Center For Sight Foundation in order to continue his 25 year commitment of providing sight-saving surgeries to people with no means to pay through Mission Cataract. The Center For Sight Foundation provides over 100 free sight-saving cataract surgeries each year.

In addition to his leadership at Center For Sight, in 2019, Dr. Shoemaker founded US Eye, a management organization developed to expand the Center For Sight vertical delivery model across the nation. The mission of US Eye is to become the most admired brand in eye care. With Center For Sight at the organization’s core, the company has a strong foundation for growth and name recognition that speaks for itself. Through Center For Sight and now US Eye, Dr. Shoemaker continues to pave the way in the eye care industry; his lifelong passion.

Dr. Shoemaker is married with two grown children and a new addition, also named David. He and his wife, Yara, make their home in Sarasota, where he enjoys his favorite pastimes of reading, traveling and chasing an amazing 4-year-old everywhere he goes.

Dr. Kerry D. Solomon, MD is a cataract, LASIK, and advanced vision correction specialist at Carolina Eyecare Physicians, which he joined in 2009. He is also the director of the Carolina Eyecare Research Institute, clinical professor of ophthalmology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), and is the former president of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS).

Dr. Solomon completed his fellowship in cataract and refractive surgery and corneal transplantation at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Prior to his fellowship, he completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky and an internship in medicine at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.

In addition, Dr. Solomon completed a fellowship in ophthalmic pathology at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received both his doctorate in medicine and bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont.

Over his 24 years of practicing medicine, Dr. Solomon has achieved status among the country’s best ophthalmic surgeons. He was one of the first in the country to perform laser-assisted cataract surgery, implant multifocal and astigmatic correcting lenses, and perform topography-guided LASIK.

He has received dozens of awards, including the Lee Nordan Refractive Surgeon of the Year Award, an award given to the surgeon who has had the greatest impact in the field, by Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today. He has been ranked in the top 1% of ophthalmic surgeons nationwide in US News & World Report.

Dr. Solomon has been ranked as one of “America’s Best Doctors” annually for cataract and refractive surgery since 2003. He has also been voted in the Top Fifty Opinion Leaders in Ophthalmology in the world by his peers since the inception of this award in 2005. He routinely speaks at both national and international meetings and hospitals, and to date has presented more than 600 lectures and live surgical demonstrations worldwide.

Brad Logan is the Chief Executive Officer of US Eye, a leading physician-led, patient-centric, vertically integrated multi-specialty eye care delivery system. US Eye spans the Southeastern United States, with over 60 clinics and five ASCs. The company employs approximately 110 physicians and 1,500 individuals. Brad joined US Eye following a 30-year career successfully building multi-state/site Physician Practice Management (PPM) and Value-Based companies.

Brad is skilled in growing and improving the performance of healthcare companies, having held operational leadership positions at two of the largest PPM companies in the nation. He is recognized for his engaging leadership style, coupled with his ability to strategically build scalable infrastructures while controlling costs and automating workflows to boost productivity.

His most recent appointment was Chief Operations Officer at Complete Health, a primary care, value-based care system. Prior to Complete Health, he served as Executive Vice President at TeamHealth, a physician practice management company. He has held additional leadership positions throughout his career in various healthcare specialties. With his executive background in operations, strategic development and financial management, Brad is well-equipped to drive US Eye towards becoming an extraordinary national eye care brand.

Brad earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN followed by a Master of Business Administration degree from the Jack C. Massey Graduate School of Business at Belmont University in Nashville, TN.

Stephanie Papoulis serves as General Counsel and Compliance Officer for US Eye. Stephanie oversees all legal, regulatory and compliance matters involving US Eye and its subsidiary companies and affiliate clinical practices. Stephanie also advises US Eye’s board of managers on corporate governance best practices and policies. Stephanie brings tremendous healthcare expertise together with broad legal, compliance and regulatory experience, having most recently served as Senior Associate General Counsel at Elevance Health, Inc., fka Anthem, Inc.

Before joining Elevance Health, Stephanie held several senior management positions as Senior Corporate Counsel at Wellcare Health Plans, Inc nka Centene, as well as General Counsel of e-Telequote Insurance, Inc., and Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Senior Care Group, Inc. Stephanie attended the University of South Florida receiving a B.A. in Political Science and a master’s degree in Public Administration. Stephanie received her J.D. from Barry University School of Law.

Stephanie regularly volunteers for Feeding Tampa Bay and Clothes to Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free clothing for school-age children in low-income families. Stephanie enjoys spending time with her husband, Tony and her adorable Australian shepherd, Ollie.

In her role as Vice President of Physician Relations and Marketing at US Eye, Marissa Rossnagle is responsible for conceptualizing and leading the marketing initiatives for over 60 medical practice locations across the Southeastern United States. Having started her career seven years ago as Marketing Director at Center For Sight in Sarasota, FL, the flagship practice of US Eye, she uses her skillset and industry knowledge to amplify the marketing strategy for US Eye practices and its providers.

Marissa oversees multi-channel marketing initiatives including traditional and digital strategy development, referral marketing, collateral development, online reputation, SEO/web development, PPC advertising, public relations, copywriting, and media buying for each practice location. She works closely with providers and practice administrators to help new US Eye partners achieve success, ensuring the process is results-driven, data-rich, and agile.

In the community, Marissa serves as a board member for the Junior League of Sarasota and volunteers as a member of her daughter’s School Advisory Council. She is also a member of the Florida Public Relations Association (Central West Coast chapter) and an Alumni of the Leadership Sarasota County program. She is passionate about supporting the communities in which we live and work through encouraging individual volunteerism and corporate philanthropy.

Cathy Perry began her career in nursing as a registered nurse at Bon Secours Health System. She then transferred to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and worked in the neonatal unit. In 1998, she began her career at Center for Sight, where she held a variety of positions including right-hand assistant, circulating nurse and surgical scrub technician for cataracts, retina, glaucoma, and facial plastic surgery. Today, as Vice President of Surgical Services, Cathy manages the five US Eye owned and operated ambulatory surgical centers along the southeast.

Her responsibilities include new physician credentialing, ASC team training, Integrated Laser Cataract Surgery, integrating and implementing the LENSAR Laser System at new sites, policy and procedure development for Laser Cataract Surgery, Laser operator for the LENSAR Femto-Second Laser, and maintaining necessary documents to achieve state certifications for each ambulatory surgery center.

Cathy’s longstanding experience as both a nurse on the ASC floor and her administrative leadership assists her in building out each new surgery center to maximize efficiency and safety.

Nikki Reynolds began her career as Vice President of Operations in Central Florida when Lake Eye Associates joined US Eye in 2021. She currently oversees the operations of seven US Eye locations throughout central Florida. In 2000, Nikki began her career in the eye care field as a scribe for Lake Eye Associates then became a Certified Ophthalmic Technician. She was later promoted to clinical manager then practice administrator for Lake Eye Associates.

In her free time, Nikki spends quality time with her three daughters and supports their various hobbies. She enjoys going to the beach every chance she gets.

Dr. Joseph Sowka received his Bachelor of Science Degree with Distinction from Cornell University, and his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) at Salus University in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his residency at PCO as well. Following residency, Dr. Sowka accepted a university appointment at Southeastern University of the Health Sciences (now Nova Southeastern University). He served as full time academic faculty at the College of Optometry for 28 years, achieving the rank of Full Professor. He served as Chief of The Advanced Care Service and Director of the Glaucoma Service at the College’s Eye Institute. He was the Program Coordinator and Supervisor for the Ocular Disease Residency. He also served as Chair for the Department of Optometric Clinical Sciences. He taught courses in Glaucoma and Vitreoretinal Disease for 26 years and in his academic career has trained over 2,500 optometrists and residents.

Dr. Sowka has authored 113 peer-review manuscripts, abstracts, and book chapters as well as over 180 other publications including 19 editions of The Handbook of Ocular Disease Management. Dr. Sowka serves on the Editorial Review Board of numerous journals. Dr. Sowka is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and was the first Diplomate in Glaucoma within the Academy. He has held numerous Chair positions within the American Academy of Optometry and is currently the Written Examination Chair for the Glaucoma Diplomate Program as well as the Chair of the Neuro-ophthalmic Disorders in Optometry Special Interest Group. Dr. Sowka is a founding member of both the Optometric Glaucoma Society and Optometric Retina Society and has served on the Executive Committees of both organizations. He is also the Founder and Chair of the Neuro-Ophthalmic Disorders in Optometry Special Interest Group for the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Sowka lectures extensively nationally and internationally.

Dr. Sowka’s clinical patient care has exclusively been in glaucoma diagnosis and management as well as care for patients with neuro-ophthalmic conditions. Dr. Sowka will be providing care to patients with glaucoma as well as those with neuro-ophthalmic issues such as double vision and sudden vision loss. He is also available for emergency conditions such as eye redness, pain, and other acute issues.

Dr. Sowka lives in Sarasota with his wife, Dr. Lori Vollmer, who is also a provider for Center for Sight, as well as their numerous pets including a dog, cats, birds, and reptiles. Most weekends, Dr. Sowka is away providing continuing medical education to practicing doctors throughout the US and abroad. Dr. Sowka enjoys working out, reading, writing, and music (playing piano and singing) and is thrilled to be part of the mission of Center for Sight to provide compassionate care to every patient.

Dr. Lori Vollmer earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of South Florida in 1990. Following graduation, she worked as a certified ophthalmic technician for eight years until pursuing a career in optometry. She graduated with honors and distinction from Nova Southeastern University, College of Optometry in 2002. She completed a residency in ocular disease at the Aran Eye Associates in Miami, Florida in July 2003. She completed a Masters’ of Science in Nutrition from the Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2018 with an emphasis in Sports Nutrition.

Prior to joining Center For Sight, Dr. Vollmer worked in academia at Nova Southeastern University for 16 years, holding the rank of Professor, where she served as an Attending Physician in the Primary Care and Diabetes and Macula Clinics. She also served in college administration as the Director of Residency Programs for the College of Optometry for 13 years, mentoring and supervising residents. Her classroom teaching experience included a course in Nutrition and Ocular Health as well as guest lectures in anterior and posterior segment ocular disease.

Dr. Vollmer has several published articles in optometric journals and has delivered numerous continuing education lectures nationally and internationally in ocular disease, trauma, medical and surgical management and nutrition. She also serves as a reviewer for optometric journal publications.

She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry, Fellow in the Optometric Retina Society, member of the Optometric Wellness and Nutrition Society, member of the American Optometric Association, Member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and member of the Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (FAND). In Florida, Dr. Vollmer served on the Board of the Broward County Optometric Association for over 10 years and is a Past President of the BCOA. Dr. Vollmer also serves as a team chair consultant for the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE).

Dr. Vollmer is married to Dr. Joseph Sowka, who is also an optometric physician at Center for Sight. Her hobbies include exercising and spending time with her animals.

Through a love for research, Dr. Sandoval has been involved in a variety of public presentations and published articles about various research projects. She has given oral presentations, been an invited panelist, and authored or co-authored articles on more than 200 occasions. She provides editorial reviews for many of the leading ophthalmic publications in the United States and Colombia.

Dr. Sandoval enjoys being able to see, evaluate, and provide feedback on new technology. She feels it keeps her mind fresh and she’s always learning new ideas and concepts. “It’s always exciting to know that what you are doing not only helps the person in front of you but reaches so many more people.”

She is so appreciative of the patients who commit to participate in these research studies and share her passion for improving medical care.

Mitch has dedicated the past 28 years to building Dental Care Alliance. DCA is recognized as one of the largest DSO’s in the country with over 375 locations in 22 states.  At Dental Care Alliance, Mitch served for 18 years as chief operating officer, chief executive officer for six years, and executive chairman for the past four years.

Prior to joining DCA Mitch was Senior Vice President of Optioncare Inc., a publicly traded home infusion therapy organization with over 400 locations nationwide.  Mitch began his career at ORMCO Corporation holding various roles in sales and management over a ten-year period. ORMCO is the country’s largest manufacturer and marketer of orthodontic appliances.

Mitch holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, obtained from Indiana University’s Kelly School of Business. As a father to two grown children and a husband to wife, Lisa, Mitch resides in the beautiful Sarasota, Florida.

Dr. Soscia is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He is a decorated Army officer, having served in the Persian Gulf War in Iraq. Following his military career, Dr. Soscia was admitted to the University of Florida College of Medicine, where he graduated with honors in research and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

Dr. Soscia has extensive experience in cataract and lens replacement surgery with advanced premium intraocular lenses. He also is experienced in refractive procedures such as LASIK, CK and refractive lens exchange. Dr. Soscia has published papers and has given many lectures at national meetings on topics in refractive surgery as well as cataract surgery and intraocular lens technology. He also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at LECOM.

Board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Soscia is a member of the American Medical Association, Florida Medical Association, Manatee Medical Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS).

Dr. Soscia lives in Bradenton with his wife, Karen, and their two daughters, Sarah and Maria. He is dedicated to practicing Kung Fu, studying the Northern Shaolin-Mi Jong style. He also enjoys weightlifting, running and fishing.

Dr. Berlie is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in LASIK and premium lens cataract surgery. He has been serving the Naples community for over 20 years. Dr. Berlie achieves superior visual outcomes for his cataract patients by utilizing the latest lens technology combined with state of the art equipment. His expertise in this area has led the Center For Sight Naples office to be recognized as the “Best Eye Center” in Naples, FL for the past 15 years. In addition to laser cataract surgery, Dr. Berlie performs vision correction procedures including All Laser LASIK, Epi-LASEK, Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) and Implantable Contact Lenses. He is also skilled in reconstructive and cosmetic eyelid surgery. He has been honored as one of America’s “Top Doctors” by the prestigious Top Doctors list, published annually by Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd.

Dr. Berlie completed his undergraduate training at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada and the California State University of San Bernardino where he received the California State University of San Bernardino Research Scholarship Award. He then attended Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska where he graduated Cum Laude, was elected as Class President, and received the Senior of the Year Award. He completed his internship in internal medicine also at Creighton University Medical Center.

Dr. Berlie continued his education at the University of Nebraska Medical Center where he completed his ophthalmology residency and received the awards of Chief Resident and the Resident of the Year Award. Dr. Berlie then went on to Saint Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City to complete his fellowship training in Oculoplastic and Aesthetic Laser Surgery.

As a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, Dr. Kim is committed to delivering exceptional cataract and glaucoma care to Center For Sight patients. Dr. Kim brings the unrivaled combination of second-to-none medical training and extensive experience with the latest technology to achieve superior results.

As a native of the Pacific Northwest near Seattle, Dr. Kim graduated magna cum laude from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. He went on to earn his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. Returning to the University of Washington, he continued his education with an internship in medicine followed by a residency in ophthalmology.

Dr. Kim then joined the premier New York Eye & Ear Infirmary in New York City for a distinguished fellowship specializing in glaucoma. Dr. Kim is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Glaucoma Society, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has co-authored numerous research papers, most notably the consensus report on trabeculectomy for the Association of International Glaucoma Societies – guidelines published for all glaucoma surgeons worldwide. Dr. Kim serves on various advisory boards and is active in clinical research, where he is the principal investigator for new glaucoma therapies including novel medications, minimally or microinvasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS), and sustained released devices. Dr. Kim has been honored as one of America’s “Top Doctors” by the prestigious Top Doctors list published annually by Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd. He is a clinical assistant professor at Florida State University and has created a MIGS Center of Excellence at Center For Sight.

At Center For Sight, Dr. Kim performs Laser Cataract Surgery with lens replacement and individualized treatments for glaucoma. As a specialist, he is skilled in all MIGS procedures including iStent, Hydrus, and Xen, in addition to traditional procedures such as laser therapy, trabeculectomy, and tube shunts. Dr. Kim is committed to bringing his patients the best care via the latest medical advances by remaining on the leading edge of research and treatment.

Dr. Kim leads an active life in Sarasota with his wife and two daughters. He enjoys taking in a few rounds of golf and running.

Dr. Alexander M. Eaton is the founder and director of Retina Health Center and has practiced ophthalmology in Southwest Florida since 1993. He is board certified and is an authority on the treatment of macular degeneration, diabetes, and other macular problems, and he has been the principle investigator in numerous research studies on these conditions.

He is widely published and is the author of See Again! Reversing and Preventing Macular Degeneration. Dr. Eaton has invented a number of surgical tools and instruments to make surgery safer and more efficient. His inventions have been featured in the New York Times, and he has a faculty appointment at Duke University.

His extensive eye care expertise has been recognized by Governor Jeb Bush, who appointed him to the Diabetes Advisory Council for the State of Florida, for which he served as chair. He earned his medical degree and completed his retinal training at Duke University, where he also served as chief resident

Dr. Vinay Gutti is a Board-Certified ophthalmologist with a medical degree from Penn State University College of Medicine, surgical residency training at Casewestern Reserve University, and a Fellowship in Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery from the University of California Irvine Medical Center.

Dr. Gutti has performed more than 15,000 surgical procedures and specializes in cataract surgeries. Dr. Gutti utilizes the Femtosecond laser cataract system and the most advanced lens implants such as the Tecnis Symfony and multifocal lenses. Using the latest lens technology along with the laser, Dr. Gutti is able to customize treatments to meet the individual needs of each of his patients. He also performs advanced corneal transplantation techniques such as the DSEK procedure, which allows for quicker visual recovery than a traditional corneal transplant.

Dr. Gutti is Lake Eye’s exclusive provider of iLASIK laser vision-correction surgery with customized eye-mapping called iDesign for superior accuracy and results achieving 20/20 vision or better in over 95% of patients.

Dr. Jitendra Swarup attended medical school in Washington, D.C., at the prestigious Howard University. Dr. Swarup’s residency was done at Sinai Hospital in Detroit, MI, where he served as Chief Resident. During his time at Sinai Hospital, Dr. Swarup was involved in the initial trials and FDA approval for the Excimer Laser in 1993 and has been performing LASIK surgery since its introduction in 1996.

Dr. Jitendra Swarup is one of the world’s leading cataract surgeons and has authored and co-authored several papers on the subject. Dr. Swarup has also given lectures on cataract surgery, intraocular lens implantation, and the management of surgical complications. Dr. Swarup is dedicated to providing the best possible care to his patients and believes in staying current on the latest technology to accomplish this. Dr. Jitendra Swarup is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a respected member of medical and ophthalmic societies, including The American Academy of Ophthalmology. Paul M. Griffey, M.D., a third-generation board-certified ophthalmologist, follows in the footsteps of his father, R. Thomas Griffey, M.D., and grandfather, Walter P. Griffey, M.D. Raised in the Tidewater area, Dr. Paul Griffey graduated with a degree in Biology from the University of Virginia in 1991 and went on to complete medical school at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in 1995. After medical school, he completed two years of general surgery residency and a full ophthalmology residency at EVMS. He was among the first physicians in the United States to perform laser refractive surgery during residency training.

Dr. Griffey is a former Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Medical School and has served as Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology at Sentara Norfolk General and Sentara Leigh Hospitals.

As a board-certified ophthalmologist, he has a special interest in performing advanced laser cataract surgery, glaucoma management and surgery, laser refractive surgery (PRK and LASIK) and treating anterior segment disease. He is skilled in managing diabetic eye disease and providing comprehensive eye care and dry eye treatments Dr. Griffey is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care to all of his patients.
